Playing Minecraft is fun, but building, creating, and modifying your Minecraft agents and worlds through coding is a skill that can help our younger generation in any field they choose to pursue. Hi! I’m Neil, and I’m the Regional Manager at theCoderSchool’s Palo Alto and San Mateo locations. I’ve been teaching since the 8th grade, first as a tutor and then eventually as a Code Coach. The reason I love working at theCoderSchool is because it’s one of the few educational institutions that delivers the way education the way it should be delivered. I’ve had many experiences in the education system: getting labeled a “gifted” child, burning out, being taught by the best and worst teachers, and many more. Both experience and research have taught me that the two most important things for a child’s learning experience are catering to their specific learning needs and engaging them with joy, interest, and passion. Coincidentally, that’s what theCoderSchool does best. Working here has given me stability, purpose, and community, all of which I do my best to extend towards each of you, our clients, as well as my team of staff. I love seeing a student’s face light up when they reach an epiphany while coding. I love asking the parents questions to get to know them better while they wait to pick up their kids. I love spending time with my Coaches, discussing everything from how to best meet a student’s specific learning needs to our plans to hang out and bond as a team later that weekend. When I’m asked the question, “who are you?”, I can respond by telling you about my interests. I love playing volleyball, making and discussing music, and drawing (among a million other interests). I can tell you that I used to be a competitive hip-hop dancer for around 10 years, or that I’ve ranked in the Top 10% nationally on the AMC8 and AMC10. I can tell you the story of how I started learning to code, or my pros and cons of the education system. I can tell you what I think of the Computer Science industry and my opinions on how AI will affect your child’s future. All of those things are intriguing, but what I’d prefer to tell you is why I love working at theCoderSchool and why it means so much to me.
