Code Coaching

Code Coaching® is our core philosophy, and what our schools are all about!  We believe that every student is different, and that kids should learn in the way that works best for each child. Unlike some coding schools, we don't just leave the kids in front of a computer, expecting the software to teach them how to code. Nor do we force all kids to go through the same curriculum or projects, regardless of their skills and interests. Instead, our Code Coaches® customize their lessons for each child, and focus on a 2 on 1 mentee-mentor relationship with our students so they can get the focused attention they need.

Plus, our Code Coaching programs also include a heap of goodies:

  • Weekly notes, summarizing your student's previous session and emailed to you
  • Custom progress tracking system with Coder Points, a proprietary point earning system
  • Support creating your unique Coder Story, our way of providing a roadmap of coding-related activites for you to pursue. Those interested in becoming a college CS major can expand their story to help their college application.
  • Personalized Student Portal listing all student accomplishments
  • Regular skill assessments through App Reviews and app uploads
  • Automatic invitation to participate in our regular Coder Fair showcase events
  • Entry to theCoderGames, a national coding competition at both novice and intermediate/advanced levels
  • Through our partnership, support for the Congressional App Challenge, a national competition run by the U.S. Congress. Winners are invited to an event at the nation's capitol building in Washington D.C. where they may have an opportunity to meet their U.S. Congressperson.
  • Structured coding tests through our proprietary Rounds of Code quizzes
  • Unlimited access to AppStream, our coding video series
  • Wide range of languages taught (Scratch, Python, Java, Javascript, HTML/CSS, Swift, Android, React, Robotics, Unity, Roblox, and more, depending on staff).

    Code Coaching® works for kids of all ages and skill levels, from novice to advanced. From game development to web apps, Python to Java, or even niche technologies like AI and beyond, our Coaches can help your kids achieve their goals.

    What is theCoderSchool? We are an after-school drop-off (and virtual) program for kids learning to code - a coding school! There's after-school kung fu. There's after-school music lessons, sports, art, tutoring, Chinese, you name it, it's out there. But coding classes for kids? Founded in 2013, we're the first of many, and the largest in Silicon Valley with more locations on the way around the country.
