Summer Coding Camps

While we’re mostly an after-school custom-learning coding shop, we also offer Summer Camps! Our in-person coding camps can be a great way to keep your kids learning computer science through their time away from school. theCoderSchool’s camps target kids’ interests, from video game development to robotics to minecraft to roblox to javascript with html/css and even mobile game development.

How We Teach at Our Camps

Our camps generally have a low-ratio of students per coach. Ask your location for specifics as it can vary. Camp instructors are Code Coaches® who have successfully gone through our onboarding process and are coders that know how to teach coding skills to kids. Each camp has recommendations around age and skill level, but all are open to discussion based on your child’s experience with coding.

How Our Camps Are Run

Each day camp runs for a full week, usually starting mid-morning and finishing early afternoon, although some camps are offered as a half-day. While we’ll do lots of on-computer learning, we’ll also take plenty of breaks and take a walk outside or other indoor activities. At the end of the week, students give demos to show off their hard work from the week and their newfound critical thinking skills.

DIGITAL ART AND ANIMATION (8+)

Unleash your creativity and bring your characters to life! In this camp, students dive into the world of digital illustration and animation using Clip Studio Paint, the same powerful software used by comic artists, illustrators, and animators around the world. Campers will learn the foundations of drawing, character design, storyboarding, and frame-by-frame animation. From sketching concepts to polishing final artwork, students will develop their own digital masterpieces and short animations. Perfect for aspiring artists of all skill levels. If you can imagine it, you can create it!

Minecraft! (8+)

At Minecraft™ Camp, utilize your creativity, learn and improve your skills, and work individually or collaboratively in an exclusive virtual world! In this camp we’ll be using Minecraft Education Edition along with our favorite programming language Python! Python is extremely powerful yet easy to read compared to other programming languages, so it’s perfect for kids who are ready for a typed programming language. We know the kids love Minecraft so what better way to teach them to code than doing so on the platform they already know and play! The kids will have a blast in this camp!

ROBOCODE (9+)

The field of robotics is growing faster than ever, appearing everywhere from our homes to video games to drones. Learn to build and program, a variety of small and large robots(including Lego Mindstorm EV3 Spike Prime) through hands-on projects that will culminate in a demo at the end of the week.

What is a coding camp?

Coding summer camps are week-long coding courses in a variety of topics, from robotics to artificial intelligence to video game design and development. We also teach an Intro to Python Programming camp, one of the fastest growing programming languages in the world!
