Summer Coding Camps

While we’re mostly an after-school custom-learning coding shop, we also offer Summer Camps! Our in-person coding camps can be a great way to keep your kids learning computer science through their time away from school. theCoderSchool’s camps target kids’ interests, from video game development to robotics to minecraft to roblox to javascript with html/css and even mobile game development.

How We Teach at Our Camps

Our camps generally have a low-ratio of students per coach. Ask your location for specifics as it can vary. Camp instructors are Code Coaches® who have successfully gone through our onboarding process and are coders that know how to teach coding skills to kids. Each camp has recommendations around age and skill level, but all are open to discussion based on your child’s experience with coding.

How Our Camps Are Run

Each day camp runs for a full week, usually starting mid-morning and finishing early afternoon, although some camps are offered as a half-day. While we’ll do lots of on-computer learning, we’ll also take plenty of breaks and take a walk outside or other indoor activities. At the end of the week, students give demos to show off their hard work from the week and their newfound critical thinking skills.

Drop the kids off for a fun Valentine’s-themed coding night while you enjoy an evening out! Students will create their own games using Scratch or Python, enjoy hands-on game development activities, and have fun with friends. Pizza included!

In Lincoln’s Log Cabin: A Minecraft Survival Adventure, campers will use Minecraft to design, build, and code a frontier-style log cabin in survival mode. Students will focus on coding concepts, architectural design, and problem-solving as they gather resources, plan structures, and bring their builds to life. Throughout the camp, campers will use redstone, game mechanics, and beginner coding logic to create functional designs and interactive features. This camp is perfect for Minecraft players who want to go beyond gameplay and learn how coding and design work together. Students will also have option to do 3D Printing if they choose!

Roblox! (Ages 8+)

In this high energy coding camp, students will use Roblox Studio to design and build their own obstacle course (obby) inspired by a dream they have for the world. Kids will learn core game design and coding concepts while creating themed levels, challenges, and interactive elements that reflect their ideas, creativity, and problem solving skills. By the end of the camp, students will have a playable Roblox game they can share and continue building at home.

We design our coding camps to help kids understand STEM topics through interactive, hands-on experiences. Our engaging approach makes sometimes complex concepts palatable for younger students. Hands-on STEM learning is highly valuable for students, giving them skills they can use for years to come—even if they don’t become computer programmers. What is a coding camp?

Coding summer camps are week-long coding courses in a variety of topics, from robotics to artificial intelligence to video game design and development. We also teach an Intro to Python Programming camp, one of the fastest growing programming languages in the world!
