Summer Coding Camps

While we’re mostly an after-school custom-learning coding shop, we also offer Summer Camps! Our in-person coding camps can be a great way to keep your kids learning computer science through their time away from school. theCoderSchool’s camps target kids’ interests, from video game development to robotics to minecraft to roblox to javascript with html/css and even mobile game development.

How We Teach at Our Camps

Our camps generally have a low-ratio of students per coach. Ask your location for specifics as it can vary. Camp instructors are Code Coaches® who have successfully gone through our onboarding process and are coders that know how to teach coding skills to kids. Each camp has recommendations around age and skill level, but all are open to discussion based on your child’s experience with coding.

How Our Camps Are Run

Each day camp runs for a full week, usually starting mid-morning and finishing early afternoon, although some camps are offered as a half-day. While we’ll do lots of on-computer learning, we’ll also take plenty of breaks and take a walk outside or other indoor activities. At the end of the week, students give demos to show off their hard work from the week and their newfound critical thinking skills.

Get ready for a summer packed with creativity, coding, and hands-on fun! Our camps are perfect for complete beginners and experienced coders alike—all skill levels are welcome. Camps run Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM. Throughout the day, students enjoy three structured breaks where they unplug from screens and take part in team-building activities like Jenga, Four Square (weather permitting), chess, Kahoot, and more. They’ll also have a full hour-long lunch break to eat, relax, get fresh air, or cool off inside while watching clips from a kid-friendly movie. Students are required to bring in snacks and lunches from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays we have a pizza party. Fridays are always a highlight—students celebrate the end of the week with a pizza party, and families are invited at 2:30 PM for presentations to see what their child created during camp. Please read the full description. Most camps provide all equipment, however certain coding platforms require students to bring in their own laptop. If you cannot provide a laptop, please contact us. Our camps sell out every year. If a camp is full and you’d like to join the waitlist, email vaishali@thecoderschool.com and we’ll do our best to accommodate, staffing permitting. RISE OF THE MACHINES (Ages 12+)

This camp is the perfect foundation for any student planning to take AP Computer Science in high school. Students will begin with Python, one of the fastest-growing and most widely used programming languages in the world—trusted by companies like Google, Facebook, and Instagram. Using Microstudio, they’ll create their own custom projects while learning essential coding concepts such as loops, conditionals, variables, and more. Students will also get an introductory look at Java, gaining an understanding of how it differs from Python and how both languages are used in real programming environments. To explore the world of Artificial Intelligence, students will use Google’s Teachable Machine and AI Games, learning how AI models are trained, how they make decisions, and how they process information. Roblox! (Ages 9+)

Get ready to jump into the world of Roblox game development! Students will use the powerful Roblox Studio engine to create their very own custom Roblox games while learning the Lua programming language. One of the highlights: building a Super Smash Brothers–style game inside Roblox Studio! Perfect for beginners and Roblox enthusiasts, this camp is ideal for any child who dreams of designing and launching their own Roblox game. Students must bring their own laptop (Windows or Mac) with Roblox Studio installed—it's free and easy to download. Recommended for ages 9+

ROBOCODE (Ages 7+)

Students will dive into robotics and coding using our mBots, learning to program their robots with block-based coding. They’ll complete exciting challenges such as navigating mazes, battling other mBots, racing, and using sensors to interact with their environment. In addition, students will explore Minecraft Education Edition, where they’ll use block coding to build custom worlds and solve creative challenges—like rescuing sheep from wolves using code-driven solutions. Students will also get hands-on experience with 3D design, creating a custom model using our 3D modeling software and printing their own 3D creation to take home. This camp is designed for ages 7+ and is perfect for beginners with little to no experience, as well as students with prior knowledge. All equipment is provided on-site.

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, theCoderSchool believes every kid is unique, and we treat them that way. Experience Interactive STEM Learning

We design our coding camps to help kids understand STEM topics through interactive, hands-on experiences. Our engaging approach makes sometimes complex concepts palatable for younger students. Hands-on STEM learning is highly valuable for students, giving them skills they can use for years to come—even if they don’t become computer programmers. What is a coding camp?

Coding summer camps are week-long coding courses in a variety of topics, from robotics to artificial intelligence to video game design and development. We also teach an Intro to Python Programming camp, one of the fastest growing programming languages in the world!

We know how different kids are from one another, and our camps help reflect that diversity. You'll find camps that focus on javascript and HTML/CSS for web development, use Scratch for game design, game development, and animations, we even have camps that teach algorithms for basic artificial intelligence and data science. We also employ a project-based learning experience.
