Year-Round Coding Classes for Kids available REMOTELY over the Internet.
Hello Irvine and central Orange County! The #1 after-school coding program for ages 7-18 in Silicon Valley is now in Irvine. Whether your coder is brand new to Scratch or already building distributed Python programs, we can help him/her get to the next level. Unlike other programs, our talented coaches are trained to tailor the lessons to your kid’s interests. This unique approach fosters a lifelong passion for building and technology. Our program will equip your student with critical skills (logic, breaking complex problems into manageable chunks, working with others towards an end goal and problem-solving techniques).
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have converted all of our coding lessons to be on-line using the Internet. Your students can attend their coding lessons from the safety of your home, and they can still receive the great quality of instruction from our Code Coaches with a very low ratio of 2-students-to-1-instructor.
We can even help with High School AP Comp Sci courses.
The best way to learn about our programs is to attend a FREE 30-minute Remote Sample Lesson. It allows you to meet our staff, get your questions answered, and see if your student enjoys our teaching methods. You can use the blue form to the right to register for the sample lesson, without any cost or obligation.
Code Coaching® works for kids of all ages and skill levels, from novice to advanced. From game development to web apps, Python to Java, or even niche technologies like AI and beyond, our Coaches can help your kids achieve their goals.
Sessions run one or two hours a week (your choice), at the same time every week on a schedule that works for both you and our assigned Coach. Check out our video for more info!
We believe that every student learns in his or her own way, not only in what they want to work on, but how fast and how much. Our Coder Tree® is a visualization of our students' learning options as they grow and a sampling of some of the topics we teach. Find more details about what kids are learning by checking out our Coder Tree®.
Our suite of proprietary tools* chart weekly progress by tracking concepts and apps, and longer term progress by identifying skills to build their individual Coder Tree®. Get an idea of our progress tools by clicking through a Sample Student's Student Portal to see for yourself.
* Used by participating locations, check your location for availabilityEach year, theCoderSchool partners with the Congressional App Challenge, a nationwide coding contest run by districts of the U.S. Congress. Take a look at our recent winners, or ask about our App Gallery to see more apps!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Summer Camps this year will be conducted REMOTELY over the Internet, using the very popular web-based "ZOOM" video-conferencing software. Most of our summer camps are Monday thru Friday, either Mornings (9am-Noon) or Afternoons (12:30-3:30pm). You can register for morning and/or afternoon sessions. The AP Comp Sci camp is a full-day.
Students code throughout the week then demonstrate their creations to parents and families at the end of the last day. What better way to keep your kids' brains active this summer?! These camps fill-up quickly, so be sure to sign up now!
We're offering an "Early-Bird" discount of $100 off if you register before the end of the day on April 30. Just be sure to enter the code "CAMPSROCK" when you checkout to get the discount.
IMPORTANT: We are an approved vendor for iLEAD and INSPIRE Charter Schools, so if your student is home-schooled and you wish to use your home-school funds for one or more of these camps, please contact our school to reserve your spot(s), then submit the necessary paperwork to iLEAD or INSPIRE so they can generate a Purchase Order.
Looking for a camp on a different week? Check out the available camps at our sister schools in
Mission Viejo, San Ramon, Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, Cerritos, Yorba Linda or Pasadena

Hello everyone! My name is Mark Freedkin and I am the General Manager of the Coder School Irvine. I started coding BASIC and FORTRAN in high school in the 1970's (yes, I had to keypunch my own cards). After earning a Bachelors in Industrial Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Illinois, I have worked as a Technical Program Manager for nearly 40 years at small start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.
Since 1991, I have lived in Irvine where my daughter went through the Irvine Unified School District. I really enjoy working with young students and watching them get excited about technology. Learning to code helps young students develop logical thought processes and problem solving skills, which can help them in all other academic areas. I wish something like theCoderSchool was available when my daughter was younger and I'm excited to share this with our community!
If you have any questions, please contact me at mark@thecoderschool.com.
We're always looking for great Code Coaches. Find out more about how to apply today.
