Who is theCoderSchool

Code Coaching®

Code Coaching® is our core philosophy, and what our school is all about!  We believe that every student is different, and that kids should learn in the way that works best for each child. How? Our Code Coaches® - they're the magic sauce!  Unlike some coding schools, we don't just leave the kids in front of a computer, expecting the software to teach them how to code. Nor do we force all kids to go through the same curriculum or projects, regardless of their skills and interests. Instead, our Code Coaches® customize their lessons for each child, and focus on a 2 on 1 mentee-mentor relationship with our kids so our students can get the focused attention they need.

Code Coaching® works for kids of all ages and skill levels, from novice to advanced. From game development to web apps, Python to Java, or even niche technologies like AI and beyond, our Coaches can help your kids achieve their goals.

Sessions run one or two hours a week (your choice), at the same time every week on a schedule that works for both you and our assigned Coach. Check out our video for more info!

Coding Lessons for Kids in Westerville, OH

Coding takes practice, and we believe getting kids to code consistently throughout the year is the only way they'll really learn to code. theCoderSchool has a staff of over 700 Code Coaches all around the country, so we know a thing or two about mentoring students in computer science. That's why our after-school coding classes for kids revolve around this relationship, providing a long-term mentor in a Code Coach to teach kids to code, from someone who's an expert coder themselves. Serving schools in the metro area like Columbus Academy and Wellington, theCoderSchool Westerville is situated just northeast of the Columbus metro area. Because we know kids love them, we offer different kinds of camps for platforms like Roblox, Minecraft, Blender (a 3D design tool), and more. Our coaches are all coding experts, many from The Ohio State University, Cornell, RIT, and other top universities.

Programs at theCoderSchool

Our coding school's flagship after-school program, Code Coaching®, combines a super-small 2:1 teaching ratio with individualized curriculum so kids are able to move at their own pace, doing things that interest them most. We Code Coaching is our premium program, we also offer a more traditional Code Class for those looking for either software driven or static curriculum teaching in a larger ratio. And during summer and holiday breaks, we offer Coding Camps. When available, programs are offered in both in-person and virtual formats. Contact us to find out more and get a free trial today.

What Kids Learn

We believe that every student learns in his or her own way, not only in what they want to work on, but how fast and how much. Our Coder Tree® is a visualization of our students' learning options as they grow and a sampling of some of the topics we teach. Find more details about what kids are learning by checking out our Coder Tree®.

Tracking Progress

Our suite of proprietary tools* chart weekly progress by tracking concepts and apps, and longer term progress by identifying skills to build their individual Coder Tree®. Get an idea of our progress tools by clicking through a Sample Student's Student Portal to see for yourself.

Our Testimonials

  • "Our son, age 12, looks forward every week to coming to the Coder School! The owners and coaches are wonderful. Our son learns something new every time and continues to build on his coding skills. It is a great experience, and we are pleased he is learning valuable skills he can use now and apply to his future. He is always excited to share with us what he has learned! The camps are great too and the perfect introduction to coding for kids."
    Heather I., Westerville
  • "My son absolutely loves the CoderSchool. He has learned so much and is actually excited to go there and learn. He did a summer camp and now goes once a week for class. Phenomenal staff and facility. I would recommend for any future coder to attend. Well worth the money and experience! My son absolutely loved working online! Thank you again for all that you do! "
    Lindsey S., Westerville
  • "First impression: nice job! We downloaded zoom ahead of time and had Ry set up in my office so we wouldn’t distract him. Houston called a few minutes ahead of time to make sure we were ready/see if we had any troubles getting set up. I was wondering how engaged Ry would be without this being face to face - but pleasantly surprised. I didn’t stay in the room, but heard Ry & Houston consistently talking back and forth. Ry was tight lipped after class, didn’t give me much feedback. Later last night he disappeared into his room and I found him working on some coding homework. I’m counting this as a win!"
    Nicole H., Westerville
  • "I think online coding lesson went great! It was actually easier than coming in - if we could keep it this way that would be ideal actually. Ha!"
    Brittany B., Westerville
  • "My son absolutely loves this place. I love watching him use his imagination and logic to create programs he’s interested in. I am impressed by how accommodating the staff has been and really appreciate the time they take to make sure we are happy and feel welcome. "
    Tricia F., Westerville
  • "The Coder School has been a wonderful experience! My son loved it in camp and since has become so excited each week to go and work on his projects. Highly recommend! And the staff and teachers are so patient and willing to work with the kids. My son had a great time with Online Code Coaching!"
    Will V., Westerville
  • "My son really enjoyed the online class today. He said he wouldn’t mind if classes were always like that. He was excited to get a new project to work on and is looking forward to next week! Thank you for making this happen!"
    Chris B., Westerville
  • "My son enjoyed the online session and enjoys the ability to share screen viewing while doing his coding work. Your code coaches continue to deliver a great product even remotely. Thanks!"
    Eric B., Westerville
  • "Virtual coaching worked well. My son was really getting into things! It was neat to see him and his reactions as the coaches helped him along. The coaches are great at working with students virtually. I'm glad we've been able to continue this even as we stay close to home"
    Lyndsey M., Westerville
  • "This place is great!! I really love how engaged my son is and how much he loves to come to his coding classes. Patrick, the owner, is always present and available to answer any questions. The coaches are great at teaching and keeping things fresh for the kids. Kids get some optional homework, my son is always excited to get home and work on it."
    Kenny R., Westerville
  • "We love our time at The Coder School in Westerville. The coaches are engaged and great with the kids. Our son has been exposed to multiple technologies and has opportunities to be creative, while solving problems and developing his logic skills. He's having fun!"
    Matt A., Westerville
  • "My two sons, ages 9 and 14, absolutely LOVE every minute spent at theCoderSchool in Westerville and frequently try to convince me to let them stay all night after their weekly session in over. I'm amazed at what they are already able to accomplish after less than 2 months at the school. I cannot recommend this enough for any parent of a child who loves electronics."
    Kate K., Westerville

Our Schools

Meet our Owners

Ming, Patrick, and Family

Hello! We are Patrick and Ming, co-owners of theCoderSchool – Westerville and we are beyond thrilled to bring Silicon Valley’s #1 coding program to our local community! Both of us graduated from The Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!) with degrees in Business Administration. We have a couple of children that keep us running around nearly all days of the week but would not trade it for anything! After working in the corporate world for many years, we wanted to tap into the entrepreneurial side of our careers. With technology surrounding nearly all aspects of our lives, we searched for a franchise that would equip our younger generation with the skills needed for the future. We wanted something that would allow the child to have fun while being creative and parents to know they are being prepared for the digital world. When we found theCoderSchool and read their philosophy, we knew immediately this was the one. Their way of immersing the individual into the technical world is different than most other franchises we looked into. What we love about theCoderSchool is that it teaches problem solving, logical thinking, teamwork and presentation skills all of which are important skills to succeed in tomorrow's society. We are excited to work with your child and look forward to being part of their coding journey! If there is anything we can assist with, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at ptee@thecoderschool.com or ming@thecoderschool.com.

Meet our Owners

Lieng Pho

Hi everyone! My name is Lieng and I am one of the co-owners of theCoderSchool Westerville. I am a graduate of THE Ohio State University and married to my college sweetheart, Brandon. We have 3 kids who keep us busy around the clock! I have been working as a Software Engineer for nearly 20 years and love every aspect of my job. Because of my experience in technology and the way the world is evolving, I recognize the importance of introducing and teaching coding to kids at an early age. When the opportunity of owning a franchise of theCoderSchool was brought to my attention by my business partners, I knew immediately that it was something I wanted to pursue and bring to my local community. I am very excited to make a difference in the lives of today's children! Feel free to reach out to me at any time at lieng@thecoderschool.com. I'd love to hear from you!

What is theCoderSchool? We are an after-school drop-off (and virtual) program for kids learning to code - a coding school! There's after-school kung fu. There's after-school music lessons, sports, art, tutoring, Chinese, you name it, it's out there. But coding for kids? We're among the first of many, and the largest in Silicon Valley with more locations on the way around the country. The future will be ever more dependent on technology so let's get our young generation ready. Learn to Code, Change the World®.
