  • Camp Description

From the day Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone in 2007, smart phones have been slowly taking over all of our worlds. Our Mobile Madness camps get our intermediate coders introduced to the world of mobile app development by coding up some of their very own mobile apps.

    Teaching Platform

Mobile Development Coding Camp at theCoderSchool Built by the engineering minds of MIT, App Inventor is an amazing platform that allows students to build and deploy mobile phone apps. Currently compatible with Android – and soon iPhone – App Inventor uses familiar logic-based code to build apps that run on a simulator for testing that can also be deployed to Android phones as fully functional mobile apps. Another option is using javascript to build hybrid mobile apps on repl.it or codepen.io. Ionic and React libraries may also be utilized so check with your specific location about platform details. Most locations will provide each student with their own Android phone to work on, but again check with your specific location to confirm. Students are always invited to bring their own if they have them.

    Concepts Learned

Campers will explore ways to interact with an Android phone, and build and deploy multiple apps. Functionality may include camera, accelerometer, location, or other phone-specific functions.

    Skill Level

Mobile Madness is aimed towards our intermediate coders who have had at least 2 years of Scratch or 1 year of Python or similar. Mobile app experience isn’t necessary, but some experience can be helpful.

What is theCoderSchool? We are an after-school drop-off (and virtual) program for kids learning to code - a coding school! There's after-school kung fu. There's after-school music lessons, sports, art, tutoring, Chinese, you name it, it's out there. But coding classes for kids? Founded in 2013, we're the first of many, and the largest in Silicon Valley with more locations on the way around the country. The future will be ever more dependent on technology so let's get our young generation ready. Learn to Code, Change the World®.
