Camp Description
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto! The field of robotics is absolutely booming. Everything from cars to thermostats and appliances are all tied to robotics and hardware engineering. If you’re excited by the thought of being an Aerospace engineer at NASA or designing the next robotic creation, then you can get a nice start on the right path with our weeklong robotics summer camp.
Teaching Platform
This summer day camp will employ actual robots to allow its campers to be able to physically interact and program them to perform actions. Throughout the week the campers get familiar with their robots and will complete exercises that allow them to control the robots. It generally will culminate in a robot competition whether it’s racing through a maze or a timed activity. mBot is a STEAM education robot and is the standard robot for this robotics camp. Check with your specific location as some locations may program with another bot. Depending on the location, campers may get to take their robot home with them at the end of the week.
Concepts Learned
Campers will get a chance to get hands-on experience with their robot in-person. They will get to assemble it from scratch and integrate it with a computer for programming and hardware problem solving. Once they’ve got it built and integrated, they will learn how to give it basic commands and expand from there to program complete tasks and learn teamwork and critical thinking while they're at it. Robotics concepts learned will be things like event detection, automated robot motion optimization, and much more. Our standard mBot robotics camp uses an easy to learn interface based on Scratch. Some camps may use lego or lego mindstorms in their robotics programs, please check with your location. Campers already familiar with the Python programming language may be able to use that to program the bot as well.
Skill Level
RoboCode is aimed towards our beginner/intermediate coders. No coding experience is required, but intermediate logic skills are needed.
Logic skills are useful for any computer science, and it's something they can build on in this hand-on enrichment summer camp. This robotics camp is ideal for elementary and middle school students, or students ages 9 and up. Please check with us for high school.

What is theCoderSchool? We are an after-school drop-off (and virtual) program for kids
learning to code - a coding school! There's after-school kung fu. There's after-school music
lessons, sports, art, tutoring, Chinese, you name it, it's out there. But
coding classes for kids? Founded in 2013, we're the first of many, and the largest in Silicon Valley with more locations on the
way around the country. The future will be ever more dependent on technology so let's get
our young generation ready. Learn to Code, Change the World®.
