Who is theCoderSchool

Code Coaching®

Code Coaching® is our core philosophy, and what our school is all about!  We believe that every student is different, and that kids should learn in the way that works best for each child. How? Our Code Coaches® - they're the magic sauce!  Unlike some coding schools, we don't just leave the kids in front of a computer, expecting the software to teach them how to code. Nor do we force all kids to go through the same curriculum or projects, regardless of their skills and interests. Instead, our Code Coaches® customize their lessons for each child, and focus on a 2 on 1 mentee-mentor relationship with our kids so our students can get the focused attention they need.

Code Coaching® works for kids of all ages and skill levels, from novice to advanced. From game development to web apps, Python to Java, or even niche technologies like AI and beyond, our Coaches can help your kids achieve their goals.

Sessions run one or two hours a week (your choice), at the same time every week on a schedule that works for both you and our assigned Coach. Check out our video for more info!

Coding Lessons for Kids in Raleigh, NC

Coding takes practice, and we believe getting kids to code consistently throughout the year is the only way they'll really learn to code! That's where our Code Coaches® come in, providing a long-term mentoring relationship to teach kids to code, from someone who's a coder themselves.

Our coding school's flagship program, Code Coaching®, combines a super-small teaching ratio of typically 2:1 or 1:1 with individualized curriculum so kids are able to move at their own pace, doing things that interest them most. This program works for kids of all ages and skill levels. From game development to web apps, Python to Java, or even niche technologies like AI and beyond, our Code Coaches can help your kids achieve their programming goals. Sessions run one or two hours a week (your choice), at the same time every week on a schedule that works for both you and our assigned Coach. Our lessons are taught in-person at our schools where available, or can be online for social distancing. Fill out our form above to get a free trial today!

Our Coder Tree®

We believe that every student learns in his or her own way, not only in what they want to work on, but how fast and how much. Our Coder Tree® is a visualization of our students' learning options as they grow and a sampling of some of the topics we teach. Like real trees, our students' coding journeys are unique from each other, but all require strong foundations and trunks to support their higher, advanced branches. Need a magnifying glass? Here's a zoomable view.

Tracking Progress

Custom coding means tracking progress is even more important! Our suite of proprietary tools* does just that. Our Coder Progress and Notes+ systems chart weekly progress through concept tracking and freeform notes. App Reviews track longer term progress by identifying current skills to build their individual Coder Tree®. Finally, our Student Portal is a one-stop shop to see it all and then some! Confused? It's complicated! Get an idea by clicking through a Sample Student's functional Student Portal to see for yourself.

2021 Summer Camps

Let's get ready for summer camps! This summer we will be holding both in-person and online summer camps as our community continues to face the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will operate our in-person camps according to all North Carolina's health guidelines.
These camps will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Mon-Fri with a lunch break from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm. Camp will be a mixture of working on a week-long coding project, coding challenges, break-out rooms and screen-free breaks and of course, the chance to present their project to their fellow campers on the last day of camp!

Our In-Person Summer Camps are held at theCoderSchool Raleigh and will have limited seats to maintain social distancing guidelines. Kids bring their own lunches and water bottles and we'll take care of the rest! Extended care will be available during the week after 3:00 PM, please pay at front-desk on the day 1 of the camp. IMPORTANT COVID-19 NOTE: Our In-Person camps will require all students, coaches and staff to wear face coverings and our facility will be organized for campers to maintain social distancing. Lastly, if theCoderSchool decides to change in-person camp to Online camp due to safety reasons, we will reach out to each parent.

Our Online Summer Camps will use Zoom. Campers will be required to have the following minimum technology available at home:

  • Windows PC, Apple Mac, or Chromebook computer. (note that Roblox camp requires Windows/Mac)
  • Internet connection of at least 15 Mbps (most homes support at least this speed)
  • Microphone/Speakers - Many computers have a built-in microphone/speakers that should work
  • A video/web camera connected to your computer allows us to see your child and coach them better based on their reactions
  • Beyond Camps: Our year around program builds upon their camp experience. Coding Camp is like a Piano camp, you learn basic skill during the camp. However if you would like to be a Pianist - you take year-around lesson. We are open for "In-Person" and "ONLINE" classes for Kids to continue their coding lessons in our year-around program. Sign-up for a free trial lesson here or email us at raleigh@thecoderschool.com.

    Meet Our Owners

    Sharat Gollamudi

I am the son of a schoolteacher and social entrepreneur who spent her entire life empowering children through education. My life’s mission is to follow her footsteps and give back to the society. It is a fact that computers are changing the world around us and how we are doing day-to-day business. Even by my own example of being a registered civil engineer by profession, it is no surprise that 90% of my work is accomplished in front of a computer. I passionately believe in Steve Job’s statement that “everyone in this country should learn to program a computer because it teaches you how to think". No matter what our kids choose as a career, be it art, music, medicine, engineering, or anything they imagine, learning to Code will provide them an edge. Hope you give us the privilege to be a building block in your child’s bright future. I am available to answer any questions you may have by email at sharat@thecoderschool.com.

    Kiran Kunchakuri

I am a co-owner of the Raleigh location and very excited to be part of theCoderSchool family. I have spent almost twenty years of my life working with computers in Programming and Management roles. At work, I have been helping my clients in the Healthcare industry to ensure customer satisfaction which I feel is the key to any successful business. As a parent of two young boys, I am always being challenged to learn new things and they inspire me with their logical skills. Impressed with theCoderSchool customized coaching approach to meet the kid's and parent's needs, hence took over this wonderful opportunity. I strongly believe with proper support and guidance every child can build and improve their coding skills which is much needed in this technology driven world. I look forward to using my experience to help create brilliant coders for the future!!! Need more information? Please email me at kiran@thecoderschool.com.

There's after-school music lessons, sports, art, tutoring, Chinese, you name it, it's out there. But coding for kids? We're among the first of many, and the largest in Silicon Valley with more locations on the way around the country. The future will be ever more dependent on technology so let's get our young generation ready. Learn to Code, Change the World®.
