Summer Coding Camps

While we’re mostly an after-school custom-learning coding shop, we also offer Summer Camps! Our in-person coding camps can be a great way to keep your kids learning computer science through their time away from school. theCoderSchool’s camps target kids’ interests, from video game development to robotics to minecraft to roblox to javascript with html/css and even mobile game development.

How We Teach at Our Camps

Our camps are all low-ratio, with typically six campers to each instructor. Camp instructors are often our regular year-round Code Coaches® who have lots of experience teaching coding skills to kids throughout the year. Each camp has recommendations around age and skill level, but all are open to discussion based on your child’s experience with coding.

How Our Camps Are Run

Each day camp runs for a full week, usually starting mid-morning and finishing early afternoon, although some camps are offered as a half-day. While we’ll do lots of on-computer learning, we’ll also take plenty of breaks and take a walk outside or other indoor activities. At the end of the week, students give demos to show off their hard work from the week and their newfound critical thinking skills.

Let's get ready for summer camps! Our full day camps are run in our school from 9:00am-3:00pm Monday to Friday and Half day camps are from 9:00 am-11:30 am or 12:30 pm-3:00 pm. Students will have to bring their own lunch and a water bottle, and we will handle the rest. We will provide pizza for the students from our local Papa Johns on Friday, right before they present and showcase the projects they made! Camp information will be sent out a week prior to the camp start time.

FEATURED CAMP (Ages 10+)

Interested in game development? We will be using Unity's visual scripting - Unity Bolt, a powerful game engine that is becoming an industry standard for many game developers. Unity is responsible for popular games like Among Us, Pokémon Go and Genshin Impact! Get started on your path to game development with this camp! Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop if they want to be able to access their project at home. We will provide laptops at no additional fee for students to use during the camp.

PYTHON STARTUP (Ages 10+)

Python is one of the most popular languages worldwide. It is widely used for teaching, building real-world applications, and lately in developing AI driven applications. Using an online Python platform, we’ll explore some fundamental concepts, then dive into fun projects that involve creative thinking and more complex coding. In addition to developing general problem solving and logical thinking skills, students will learn Python syntax (loops, variables, line structure, etc), function calls, Cartesian Coordinates, and more! Roblox! (Ages 10+)

We will be using Lua coding language to make real games while introducing the Roblox platform. Campers will learn the basic coding logic and use their creativity to build their own game that can be published for the world to play! ROBOCODE (Ages 10+)

Controlling stuff can be serious fun! Get an introduction to micro-controllers and learn to code LED lights, sensors, buttons, motors and more! Each camper will receive a micro:bit IoT kit that will work with any computer and will include a bunch of cool accessories. This camp will be coding in Python and is great for both beginners and intermediate coders alike.

JAVA CAMP (Ages 10+)

We know the kids love Minecraft so what better way to teach them to code than doing so on the platform they already know and play! Students will learn how to create their own items, armour sets and weapons using MinecraftJava Edition and Java. Java is extremely powerful yet easy to read compared to other programming languages. It’s perfect for kids who are ready for a typed programming language. The recommended age is 10+.

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, theCoderSchool believes every kid is unique, and we treat them that way. Our core program revolves around a mentor relationship with experienced coders, Code Coaches who can guide our students through their amazing - and custom - technical journey. What is a coding camp?

Coding summer camps are week-long coding courses in a variety of topics, from robotics to artificial intelligence to video game design and development. We also teach an Intro to Python Programming camp, one of the fastest growing programming languages in the world!
