Summer Coding Camps

While we’re mostly an after-school custom-learning coding shop, we also offer Summer Camps! Our in-person coding camps can be a great way to keep your kids learning computer science through their time away from school. theCoderSchool’s camps target kids’ interests, from video game development to robotics to minecraft to roblox to javascript with html/css and even mobile game development.

How We Teach at Our Camps

Our camps generally have a low-ratio of students per coach. Ask your location for specifics as it can vary. Camp instructors are Code Coaches® who have successfully gone through our onboarding process and are coders that know how to teach coding skills to kids. Each camp has recommendations around age and skill level, but all are open to discussion based on your child’s experience with coding.

How Our Camps Are Run

Each day camp runs for a full week, usually starting mid-morning and finishing early afternoon, although some camps are offered as a half-day. While we’ll do lots of on-computer learning, we’ll also take plenty of breaks and take a walk outside or other indoor activities. At the end of the week, students give demos to show off their hard work from the week and their newfound critical thinking skills.

FEATURED CAMP (Ages 9+)

What's really inside that black box? Coding isn't just about software — there's a whole world of hardware to explore, and your kid gets to dig right in. In this camp, kids take apart real computers and laptops, see exactly how they work inside, and learn to put them back together — no extra purchase required. Everything they need to explore is provided. For kids who want to take it a step further: if you bring your own computer parts, your child can build a real, working PC during camp and take it home at the end. (Parts are optional and not provided by the camp — just bring them if you want your kid to build and keep a computer.) Hands-on, screwdriver-required, genuinely fun for any kid who's ever wondered what's actually going on inside a computer.

PYTHON STARTUP (Ages 9+)

Learn Python, a real-world programming language used across tech. Intermediate coders will build practical programs and a complete mini-project by the end of the week. No prior Python experience needed—students are guided step-by-step and grouped by age/skill.

GAME DEVELOPMENT (Ages 7+)

In this camp, students dive into the future of game creation by using AI to help design and build their own game. Campers will create game concepts, characters, levels, story ideas, and gameplay features while learning how AI can support the game development process. This camp is a great fit for both first-time coders and students who already enjoy making games.

Minecraft! (Ages 7+)

Minecraft has taken the world over by storm since it debuted in 2009. This camp combines The fun of Minecraft with teaching kids to code at the same time. Playing Minecraft is fun, but building, creating, and modifying your Minecraft agents and worlds through coding is a skill that can help our younger generation in any meld they choose to pursue. Roblox! (Ages 9+)

If you've heard of Minecraft, you probably have heard of its cousin Roblox. In this summer camp, participants will get to create and publish their own Roblox game to Roblox website for the world to play. Campers will spend each day building an Obby (Roblox lingo for Obstacle course) using the amazing Roblox Studio platform. Campers will learn the basics of creating games in a 3D environment. They will also learn about the programming language Lua by modifying pre-programmed blocks to suit their obstacle course needs. On Friday, parents will get to see the awesome creations of their campers.

micro:bit Engineering: Build Smart Gadgets

IN-Person		 micro:bit Engineering: Build Smart Gadgets introduces kids to how software and hardware work together. Campers will code the LED display, buttons, and sensors to build interactive gadgets they can physically use. Students learn core computer engineering concepts while creating hands-on projects, and finish the week with a working device/project they can demonstrate and explain. Ages 7+ Ages 7+ $529

Game Dev: Create Classic Games (Track 1)

IN-Person		 We’ll use beginner-friendly coding tools like Scratch or Python to create classic-style games from scratch. Campers will learn core game design concepts (movement, scoring, levels, and simple AI), then build a complete playable game they can show off at the end of the week. Great for newbie and novice coders—students are grouped by age and experience. Track 1 features a different set of projects than Track 2. Ages 7+ Ages 7+ $529

Experience Interactive STEM Learning

We design our coding camps to help kids understand STEM topics through interactive, hands-on experiences. Our engaging approach makes sometimes complex concepts palatable for younger students. Hands-on STEM learning is highly valuable for students, giving them skills they can use for years to come—even if they don’t become computer programmers. What is a coding camp?

Coding summer camps are week-long coding courses in a variety of topics, from robotics to artificial intelligence to video game design and development. We also teach an Intro to Python Programming camp, one of the fastest growing programming languages in the world!

What makes theCoderSchool camps different?

We know how different kids are from one another, and our camps help reflect that diversity. You'll find camps that focus on javascript and HTML/CSS for web development, use Scratch for game design, game development, and animations, we even have camps that teach algorithms for basic artificial intelligence and data science. We also employ a project-based learning experience.

What is theCoderSchool? We are an after-school drop-off (and virtual) program for kids learning to code - a coding school! There's after-school kung fu.
