Summer Coding Camps

While we’re mostly an after-school custom-learning coding shop, we also offer Summer Camps! Our in-person coding camps can be a great way to keep your kids learning computer science through their time away from school. theCoderSchool’s camps target kids’ interests, from video game development to robotics to minecraft to roblox to javascript with html/css and even mobile game development.

How We Teach at Our Camps

Our camps are all low-ratio, with typically six campers to each instructor. Camp instructors are often our regular year-round Code Coaches® who have lots of experience teaching coding skills to kids throughout the year. Each camp has recommendations around age and skill level, but all are open to discussion based on your child’s experience with coding.

How Our Camps Are Run

Each day camp runs for a full week, usually starting mid-morning and finishing early afternoon, although some camps are offered as a half-day. While we’ll do lots of on-computer learning, we’ll also take plenty of breaks and take a walk outside or other indoor activities. At the end of the week, students give demos to show off their hard work from the week and their newfound critical thinking skills.

Our Camps are held at The Coder School Pasadena. Kids bring their own lunches and water bottles and we'll take care of the rest! We recommend all students, coaches and staff to wear face masks. GAME DEVELOPMENT (Age 7+)

We'll be using cool drag n' drop languages like Scratch to create some awesome new and classic games! Aimed at our newbie and novice coders. Each group will have different themes. This fun camp is all about coding games – and the awesomeness that comes from it! From Frogger to Tron or even classics like Breakout or Flappy Bird, our Code Coaches will help choose the right game(s) for our campers. Campers will not only create a real functioning game from scratch, they’ll practice the fundamental coding concepts required in any language, learn how to think logically, and have fun while doing it. Using Scratch, MIT’s popular drag-and-drop programming language, campers will code cool playable games with guidance from our seasoned Code Coaches and have a sweet Friday afternoon demo for parents to see! PYTHON STARTUP (Age 9+)

Who’s ready for some PYTHON! Take advantage of the easy-to-read style of coding while picking up on one of the most popular languages today for professional and beginner coders alike. We’ll start out by using an online python platform to learn some basics and practice some fundamental concepts, and time permitting and based on our camper skill set, we may jump on to some more complex Python coding, potentially getting into coding with PyGame. Python allows beginners to easily read and understand the code while providing an almost endless supply of libraries and supporting systems to develop things from websites to backend servers to data scripts and yes, even a particular version of Minecraft! Start slowly or code fast, this camp is for our beginner or intermediate coders – no Python experience necessary! Learn more

Calling all young creators and game enthusiasts! Get ready for the ultimate adventure in game development as we dive into the world of Roblox Studio. At our epic creation camp, kids will unleash their creativity, hone their coding skills, and bring their wildest game ideas to life! Join us for a week of non-stop fun and innovation as campers: Learn the ins and outs of Roblox Studio, Design and build their own immersive games, from action-packed adventures to virtual hangout spots, Master the tools and techniques of game development, including scripting, building, and animation. And Collaborate with fellow campers to brainstorm ideas, solve challenges, and create epic gaming experiences.

What is a coding camp?

Coding summer camps are week-long coding courses in a variety of topics, from robotics to artificial intelligence to video game design and development. We also teach an Intro to Python Programming camp, one of the fastest growing programming languages in the world!
